Queerguru has an Audience with SISTER MARY to talk about her award-winning show she has brought from London to Provincetown

Posted on Categories queerguru.tvLabels , , , ,

Its a long journey from the steps of St Peter’s of the Sister’s of the Third Removed, in the heart of London’s West End, but that is where Sister Mary‘s journey started many (many!) years ago It is rumored that she is the secret love child of West End musical theatre star Elaine Paige and from her she developed her love of showtunes, telling stories and making homemade flapjacks.

A few years ago she put a ‘iittle entertainment together’ which she took to Edinburgh’s legendary Fringe Festival where she picked up rave reviews and Adam Weinstock. He made Sister an offer she couldn’t refuse, and he has brought her to perform in his home town (and ours too) Provincetown. (And who said Catholics and Jews cannot mix?)

Thus when she arrived here this weekend to start her month’s run at the REDROOM , and so she and her long-suffering side kick Brother Matthew, sat down with Queerguru outside the UU church to spread the news (and a wee bit of gossip too).

She assured us personally that the show was singing and her unique style of comedy. No pulpit. No psalms. No prayers. She’s not that kind of nun. Sister Mary is here to spread love and musical joy and that’s exactly what she is going to do

Posted on Categories queerguru.tvLabels , , , , ,

Ron Amato’s day job is as a Professor in the Photography and Related Media department of Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, but like most gay men who ‘discover’ Provincetown, the gay mecca at the tip of Cape Cod, it gave him a different approach to life . Amato fell in love not just with the men (well that happens to us all ) but both the sheer beauty of the windswept beaches and the fact that the Town is also home to the country’s oldest.art colony. Its provided him with a never ending array of subject matter his stunning series of Nudes on the sand dunes are considered iconic.

Last year PTown’s Eric Lesh Gallery mounted a retrospective of Amato’s work Playing In The Sunshine 1999 -2022, and now this summer PAAM (Provincetown Art Association Museum) is presenting his latest solo show ARTISTS OF PROVINCETOWN This exhibition highlights artists with deep ties to Provincetown,, during the early 21st century. Made over a period of eight years, Amato has created eighty-four deeply penetrating portraits which illustrate the breadth and depth of the community. Making use of the color and light which is uniquely Provincetown, Amato’s imagery is both dynamic and authentic.

Queerguru caught up with Amato to talk about the whole history behind the creation of the show which will be on for Summer 24 and how this will continue his love affair with the Town, And ours too.

PS The book accompanying the Show will also be available online www.ronamato.com

Trans masc filmmaker MARVAL A REX talks with Queerguru about SPOOKABLE his new queer werewolf film screening at Frameline

Posted on Categories queerguru.tvLabels , , , , , , ,

Marval A Rex’s resume reveals he is an actor, writer, actor, comedian, astrologer and heartthrob!  When we we caught up with him we found out that this strikingly articulate trans-masculine filmmaker is also disarmingly charming.

He has just co-written and co starred in SPOOKABLE a humorous offbeat trans werewolf horror story which premieres this Sunday June 23 as part of Frameline’s Fun In Shorts short film program. Queerguru’s reviewer Ris Fatah had declared the film ‘a real gem” so we were keen to talk to him about his entertaining wee film that was made by a trans cast and a trans crew.

Filmmaker MARCO CALVANI talks about his debut feature film HIGH TIDE a queer love story in PTown

Posted on Categories queerguru.tvLabels , , , , ,

Some 18 months ago Italian/American queer filmmaker Marco Calvani unexpectedly found himself staying in Provincetown for 6 months in the off season. This is the time of year when this gay mecca at the tip of Cape Cod, is completely empty of all the summer tourists and has a full time population of just 3000 souls. Its when Calvani fell in love …… with the town that is …. and the result is that he ended up writing/directing High Tide his debut feature film.

I’m not sure how Calvani pulled it off but for a small budget feature (shot in just 14 days) with some remarkable performances, with an exceptional one from the remarkably talented Marco Pigossi, (the actual real-life BF of Calvani) the real star is Provincetown.

Queerguru caught up with Calvani and actor James Bland when he was in Ptown for the film’s World Premiere to get  all the lowdown.  The interview was filmed by Dan Desjardins
