Posted on Categories queerguru.tvLabels , ,

One of the highlights of the summer season in #PTown each year is the one week residency of the legendary jazz singer Marilyn Maye. She may have passed her 90th Birthday a couple of years ago but she is ageless on the stage of Provincetown Art House Theatre singing her heart out to the sold out (mostly) gay crowds.

Here’s Marilyn singing her Here’s To Life Medley filmed live

The legendary jazz singer MARILYN MAYE is in love with Provincetown. She waxes lyrically about this tip of Cape Cod as not just being her favorite place to perform, but also to stay. Hers is a two-way love affair as evidence by just watching her do the short walk to the Art House ,  where she will perform,  as she is constantly stopped by friends and fans old and new.

This remarkable performer who clocked up 76 performances on The Johnny Carson Show ….. more than any other singer ….. will doing a ninety minute set in her new Show, to what will become sold out crowds,  even though she has just celebrated her 89th birthday.

We’ve had the privilege, and sheer pleasure of getting to know her a little over the past three years, a meeting that is always a highlight of our summers.  It is not just the voice that sends tingles down your spine, or her longevity, or her personality that we love about Miss Maye, but her wonderful zest for life which always has you coming away from meeting her, or listening to her sing on such a high.

If you are in P.Town from 4th – 7th August beg, steal or borrow to ensure you get a ticket.

The interview with Roger Walker-Dack for queerguru.tv was filmed by Hussein Wentz at The Art House.

The Marvelous Miss Maye

Besides being a legendary singer whose many claims include 76 appearances singing on The Johnny Carson Show etc.  Marilyn Maye has wormed her way into the hearts of the entire population of Provincetown..

For the past 9 years she has headlined the Broadway at the Art House Series in a week of sold out shows  that have become a highlight of the Season.  This fabulous feisty nonagenarian with her unceasing energy wows the crowd that are drawn to her remarkable talent for making every single song  come so alive. She always has us totally eating out of her hands.

We can totally understand why the  late great Ella Fitzgerald called Marilyn Maye  :the greatest white female singer in the world..

This year her show was all songs about LOVE as she shared her passion  for both love and life , particularly when it is PTown.  For the past 5 years QUEERGURU has had the privilege of interviewing Miss Maye and its become a big highlight for us too.
