SPOOKEY : the king of Boylesque and the star of HELLTOWN reveals all to Queerguru

Posted on Categories queerguru.tvLabels , , , , , ,

Spookey is one of the few people Queerguru knows who goes by a single name  (well there ls Madonna too BUT we have been forbidden to discuss  that connection).  He is an exceptionally talented acrobatic boylesque performer starring in HELLTOWN one of the hottest tickets in Provincetown this summer. He is a totally charmer and every time we meet he reminds us of a mischievous boy, BUT if you have seen his act you will know for certain he is definitely  very much a man!

For his weekly show at the Post Office Cabaret  here in Ptown, he pulls in some of the town’s brightest entertainers to star with him,  Each week he has a different cast  that to date have included Mackenzie, Delta Miles, Lakia Mondale, Jizelle and the next show it will be Boy Radio (who is about to star in The Rocky Horror Show also in PTown) .

It was a sheer joy to sit down with him to talk about his summer so far, as he shares  our love of this gay mecca at the tip of Cape Cod that we are so lucky to call home.   He  actually won Showgirls of The Year in 2023, and is a great addition to the excellent entertainment that P Town has a such high reputation.

Check out our interview….. filmed by Dan Desjardins  … then go book to so see Helltown …it is unmissable.  And so is Spookey.

Stephen Soucy talks about MERCHANT IVORY his superb doc about the queer cinema pioneers

Posted on Categories queerguru.tvLabels , , , ,

Stephen Soucy’s new documentary MERCHANT IVORY is one of those rare films that actually surpasses all the hype and the anticipation that preceded it. This affectionate profile on the legendary queer film pioneers makes for such joyous viewing. Especially if you are of a certain age (!) and grew up on the splendor of such films as Room With a View. Even more so if you are a gay history buff, as you will want to pay respect to this fearless couple and their impact on gay cinema.

From their ground breaking film of EM Foster’s legendary queer novel MAURICE to their triple Academy Award winning Howard’s End, their partnership, on and off the screen, lasted some 44 years . On the eve of the film’s Provincetown Film Fest Screening, Soucy talks to QUEERGURU about their work and their legacy in the annals of queer cinema

The Annual (stunning) White Party , Provincetown seen through the eyes of @itstherabbit

Provincetown’s White Party celebrated its 36th Anniversary this Labor Day Weekend.  What started out as one of the very best parties of the Season (which it still is) has now also become a major fundraiser for Outer Cape Heath Services . Last year alone the money raised was $165,000 ….bringing the running total to over $500,000.

This year Queerguru was lucky to get its hands on a video of the event filmed by @itstherabbit a local resident who is also co-owner of The Gaythering : the very best queer hotel in Miami Beach.  However he did make us promise not to wear white again until next year….

The disarmingly charming CLAYBOURNE ELDER is preparing for his return to Ptown

Posted on Categories queerguru.tvLabels , , , , ,

Actor and singer CLAYBOURNE ELDER has come along way since he swapped the landlocked state of UTAH in the mountainous West to try his luck on Broadway. The Mormons loss was very much our gain. In the 20 years since then he has starred on Broadway several times .

Kicking off with rave reviews and a Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Leading Actor in A Play for originating the role of “Ollie Olson” in One Arm directed by Moisés Kaufman. He has never ever looked back. Sondheim has always been one of his most favorite composers and Elder has starred in Sunday In The Park with George, Road Show and most recently in Company . Then when he was part of the star studded cast HBO TV series The Gilded Age playing John Adam, the secret lover of the aristocratic Oscar Van Rijn he won a whole new swarm of fans, even for the scenes when he wore clothes. QUEERGURU caught up with the disarmingly charming Elder to talk about his upcoming show plus his happy home life where he and his husband are fathers to Claybourne Jnr..

And then we asked him to retell a particular anecdote of how the sheer generosity of a perfect stranger completely changed his life on so many levels. You’ll need to watch the video to hear the details of this wonderful heart touching story

The time that the fabulously funny LESLIE JORDAN threw ‘shade’ with Queerguru

Posted on Categories queerguru.tvLabels , , , , , ,

Back in 2017 Queerguru had the sheer pleasure of interviewing (for the 2nd time) the great Leslie Jordan. Of all the people that have ever sat in front of our cameras over the years he was the most generous and warmest of interviewees  that we have ever had the honor of spending time with.  Full of charisma and his quick fire wicked wit he had the entire Queerguru crew in fits for the whole tim.

Since we published the interview in 2017bit has been viewed over 330K times  on You Tube alone and shared 55 times too …. but by then we knew how very loved this iconic gay man was.

Like everyone else we miss him so much since he was taken from us so early, which makes this video of ours even more precious.

Whilst remembering all the joy he gave us through his work, it seems only fitting too include this collage of Beverley Leslie  (and his Personal Assistant Benji) being so offended at somehow always being mistaken for being a homosexual
