Queerguru hangs out with THE PUNK ROCK QUEEN OF THE JEWS (and has a blast!)

Posted on Categories queerguru.tvLabels , ,

When we first met and interviewed CHEF ROSSI 5 years ago in PTown it was love at 1st sight (for me anyway)). She had just turned her colorful Jewish past into a best selling memoir and hit play that was running at WELLFLEET HARBOR ACTORS THEATER. Quick witted, wickedly funny she talked to QUEERGURU about The Raging Skillet and how as a feminist lesbian punk she just loves to stir it all up

Now she is back with her second memoir THE PUNK ROCK QUEEN OF THE JEWS which she is happy to share is much more R-rated . The woman is unstoppable : chef owner of The Raging Skillet a NY anti-catering company celebrating its 36th year : a writer, author, radio host, screenplay writer and a self confessed loudmouth . Oh yes we forget she is also a queer feminist Hungarian Jewish punk. The book to be published in April is impossible to put down … but meanwhile check out why she had me laughing so much just talking about it

Queerguru has an Audience with SISTER MARY to talk about her award-winning show she has brought from London to Provincetown

Posted on Categories queerguru.tvLabels , , , ,

Its a long journey from the steps of St Peter’s of the Sister’s of the Third Removed, in the heart of London’s West End, but that is where Sister Mary‘s journey started many (many!) years ago It is rumored that she is the secret love child of West End musical theatre star Elaine Paige and from her she developed her love of showtunes, telling stories and making homemade flapjacks.

A few years ago she put a ‘iittle entertainment together’ which she took to Edinburgh’s legendary Fringe Festival where she picked up rave reviews and Adam Weinstock. He made Sister an offer she couldn’t refuse, and he has brought her to perform in his home town (and ours too) Provincetown. (And who said Catholics and Jews cannot mix?)

Thus when she arrived here this weekend to start her month’s run at the REDROOM , and so she and her long-suffering side kick Brother Matthew, sat down with Queerguru outside the UU church to spread the news (and a wee bit of gossip too).

She assured us personally that the show was singing and her unique style of comedy. No pulpit. No psalms. No prayers. She’s not that kind of nun. Sister Mary is here to spread love and musical joy and that’s exactly what she is going to do

Video was filmed by Dan DesJardins

Queerguru talks with PAGE HURWITZ creator/director of OUTSTANDING : A Comedy Revolution @ PTown Film Festival

Posted on Categories queerguru.tvLabels , , , , ,

OUTSTANDING: A COMEDY REVOLUTION is probably the most joyous celebration of the queer community we will see on our screens this Pride Month. Directed by filmmaker/comedian Page Hurwitz, the producing partner of queer comic Wanda Sykes, this Netflix documentary very incisively explores the contributions that stand up comics have made to the growth and recognition of the LGBTQ+ community over the years.

With the help of an unprecedented array of some extraordinary talented queer comedians, Hurwitz allows her cast to share their stories about how their personal and professional ‘coming outs’ shaped their work. Which in turn shaped how our community evolved.

QUEERGURU has already talked with Joel Kim Booster one of the many queer comics in the film and now we caught up with Page when the film was being screened at Provincetown Film Festival The film is due to be released in Netflix on June 18th You can read Queerguru’s full review HERE ..
