Little Squirt

The global lockdown caused by the COVID pandemic gave rise to a deal of imaginative thinking as to what to do with ourselves now that most of our lives were on hold.  In Melbourne Australia, queer comic and performer DARBY JAMES decided he not only wanted to help the world continue procreating, but that as a good show tunes queen he would set it all to music. too.

His award winning show LITTLE SQUIRT was the result of his fevered brow , and once QUEERGURU heard that he was headed to perform it at the EDINBURGH FESTIVAL FRINGE, we knew we just had to ask him to dish about the show..

After all its not many gay men who may be personally responsible for producing a whole new generation of Australians and  It puts a whole new meaning to on of our favorite gay bar expressions ‘call me daddy!”

Gaby Foley talks about FLICKER her modern-day queer farce heading to Edinburgh Festival Fringe

The moment we read the first lines of the synopsis of FLICKER a new play heading to Edinburgh Festival Fringe, we knew we need to know more.   It read “Have you ever thought about your dad’s c*ck at a funeral? If so, you’d probably dismiss it. But what if your brain couldn’t do that?” This hilarious modern-day queer farce. goes from one of many intrusive thoughts to a real feeling, but it= asks how do you know what’s true, or intrusive? If you can’t trust your own thoughts, what can you trust?

Flicker explores Pure OCD and is from the fevered mind of Gaby Foley a recent graduate from the Royal Welsh Drama School who has based so much of her own experiences into this her debut play . Although when QUEERGURU caught up with her she went out of her way to reassure us that she hadn’t ever really thought about her about her father’s genitalia

Flicker is playing at The Pleasance in Edinburgh for nearly all of August

Jack Tracy talks about ‘DANNY WILL PROBABLY DIE ALONE’ his fabulously funny new web series based on his own roller coaster dating life

Every time actor, writer, director JACK TRACY thinks he has met the man of his dreams, he throws himself to this  latest love match really believing that this time its Mr Right.  Sadly for Jack it usually turns out that it isn’t even Mr Right Now,  but (dare I say) this latest experience will inspire him to create another wickedly funny drama that will keep us allmin stitches.

Queerguru has talked often with Jack over the years and as he never holds back from any of the intimate details (!) we feel we know that part of him better than our closest friends.

His very latest series DANNY WILL DIE ALONE IS also based on his dating life over the past few years … he told Queerguru its  ‘heightened reality’.  And is now widely accessible as it is streaming on DEKKOO channel.…. it is, like all his previous work, a sheer joy to watch.   And as in all his tales, you will find that you have probably experienced some of the same mini dating dramas as him

Jo Clifford talks about her play THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO JESUS, QUEEN OF HEAVEN

Posted on Categories queerguru.tvLabels , , ,

Jo Clifford is an award-winning British writer, performer, poet and teacher based in Edinburgh. She is a prolific writer having some 150 plays under her belt, but the one that has attracted most attention (and notoriety) is The Gospel According To Jesus, Queen of Heaven. The play features Jesus as a trans woman is and was one of the first in the UK to be written by and starring a trans person.

Clifford has said that the play had begun her social gender transition, where she was “encountering hatred on the street from people shouting abuse at me, saying horrible things, laughing at me. I wondered where this hatred came from. I’d read the Gospels, and when I read them I was profoundly moved. I had been brought up as a Christian and taught that when you’re unsure of what to do, you should try to think, ‘What would Jesus do?’ I thought, ‘Well, what would Jesus do if Jesus came back to earth now and was me, a trans woman? What would she do and what would she say?’ That was the origin of the play.” In Out of the Ordinary: Representations of LGBT Lives, Clifford spoke about the abuse she experienced, connecting it to what she saw as harsh prohibitions against transgender and gender variant individuals in the Old Testament of the Bible.

Since Clifford first performed the play in Glasgow in 2009 she has encountered great resistance from Theaters leaving her to perform in churches like St Marys of The Harbor in Provincetown one of the most diverse and welcoming towns in the US. Its where QUEERGURU caught up with her…. full of good humor , and so much love for our community …..it was a sheer joy learning more about her work and her life
