Justin D. Quackenbush talks about Love, Valor and Compassion …….and being a P.Town virgin

Posted on Categories queerguru.tv

When David Drake’s production of Terrence MacNally’s Tony Award winning classic play LOVE, VALOR & COMPASSION opened in the Provincetown Theater last week, it quite rightly was greeted by rave reviews.  With McNally and his husband Broadway Producer Tim Kirhady in the audience, the atmosphere was electrifying and  the talented cast of gay actors really outdid themselves,  It was probably the best piece of theater that Queerguru has witnessed in all our summers up here .

Amongst the cast was NY actor/singer Justin D. Quackenbush making his Provincetown debut with an exhilarating scene stealing performance as Buzz that never let up once in the whole  2 and a half hours. With perfect timing, he really relished every ounce of humor of MacNally’s magnificent script with its wonderful hilarious veins that peppered this story about a what was essential tough time for NY’s gay community, and indeed elsewhere.

We were completely captivated and were delighted when Justin agreed to be interviewed for our series The Passion of P Town about people and events who are passionate about what they do here in out town.

Filmed by Dan Desjardins at Provincetown and with stills from Sacha Ferrier-Cohen.

Peaches Christ & Varla-Jean Merman create havoc ( & horror) in THE WHINING

Posted on Categories queerguru.tvLabels , , ,

When two superstar drag queens decide to stick it out in a desolate snow-laden #Provincetown winter there is bound to be high drama afoot. Peaches Christ and Varla Jean Merman recount their hilarious adventures in The Whining, very (very) loosely adapted (bastardized?) from Stephen King‘s classic horror tale. It’s totally outrageous and thoroughly bad taste, but will have you howling for more.

We got the Ladies to spill the beans and some inside scoops (like how Varla went berserk with a real axe onstage) in this interview with  Roger Walker-Dack which was filmed at Provincetown Art House Theatre by #DanDesjardins

Our thanks as always to both of the Stars and also to Brian W Johnston for facilitating it as usual

On the eve of the multi-talented Brit performer PETER GROOM opening his smash hit one (wo)man show  DIETRICH: NATURAL DUTY to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, he very excitedly talked to Queerguru about it and his total fascination with the legendary MARLENE DIETRICH

The show uses music, stories and songs – including Falling in Love Again, Lili Marlene, Where Have All the Flowers Gone?, Boys in the Backroom, Lola – to reveal a Hollywood icon’s extraordinary commitment to duty, and is an intoxicating mix of theatre, cabaret and drag

Created and performed by Peter Groom. Co-written and directed by Oliver Gully.   Dietrich: Natural Duty  will run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival at Pleasance  Aug 1 – 27 at 3.30pm (1 hour)
