Lost In White City

Kyle (Thomas Dekker) and Eva (Haley Bennett) are two slightly pretentious American students who are traveling to Tel Aviv for the summer in the hope that it may inspire them in their art. More so their relationship is rapidly disintegrating and even though Kyle at least thinks he wants to salvage it, a breakup up looks inevitable.  On one of their first evenings in the city they meet a young ex-very self-assured and extremely handsome ex soldier called Avi, (Bob Morley) who a somewhat besotted Kyle decides will be the star of the artsy experimental movie that he is about to start shooting.

Meanwhile Eva an aspiring writer gets herself invited to meet with a local literary group, which gives Kyle yet another reason to ignore her even more, and focus all his time and attention on getting Avi to shed more clothes for the film. After one drunken spree, the two men end up in bed together and although nothing happens, its not for the lack of desire on Kyle’s part who seems to sport a boner every time he sees just a flash of Avi’s naked flesh.

Next morning as they lay in bad totally innocently, they are discovered by Eva when she  returns from an all night party. She assumes the worse and when she rushes her off, Kyle runs after her to placate her.  By now it’s obvious he doesn’t want her yet he still starts pleading and begging with her not to  go, even though by then she has lost interest in both him and their relationship, which oddly enough we had done some scenes previously.

The unrequited lust between the two men was a totally believable part of this clumsily written movie, but it was the fact that there was not any convincing element about Kyle and Eva’s relationship,  He was an unsympathetic completely self-absorbed prig who expected both Eva and Avi to attend to his needs and do what he wanted, so he, and this irritating story was doomed from the start.
