An overweight teenage schoolboy with an alcoholic father and an absent colorful mother takes up the Korean version of sumo wrestling to win the big prize to pay for the sex-change operation that he so wants. He has an infectious personality that helps win over his doubting teammates who physically tower over him ….. but it is a combination of his super human strength AND his talented Madonna dance routines that win the day.
I really loved this feel good movie because this very unlikely ‘hero’ gets through all that society throws at him cos he knows who he is, what he wants and nothing is going to stop him. And it is all done without the usual hand wringing, over analyzing and weepy dramas that seem to be the norm with movies that feature transgendered people. This sweet little movie has an immense amount of wonderful humor, and deserves to be seen by a wider audience than it will probably reach.
