With Love: a new Latinx/queer holiday rom-com from Amazon Prime

The Holiday Season is the time when too many TV Networks want to get us all feeling romantic.  We have nothing against that …… in principle …… but the films/series they make do tend to opt for sentimentality over substance.   It’s really hit and miss whether you end up giving up or throwing up, and in the rare case, dashing off to Tiffany’s.

Despite the fact we know all this, come the cold dark nights of winter, so many of us cannot afford inevitably being drawn in and watching the latest romance ……. just in case.  Well, Queerguru will always do its best to check as many of them out …. especially the queer ones ….. to see if this could be the one.  Or even, if he could be the One!  As if.

Prime Video’s WITH LOVE is a Latinx and queer take about love in its many forms and the trouble we go through to find it.  It follows the Diaz siblings, Lily and Jorge Jr., who are on a mission to find love and purpose. “In each of the five episodes, Lily, Jorge Jr., and the entire Diaz family navigate the highs and lows of love during a different holiday throughout the year: Christmas Eve/Nochebuena, New Year’s Eve, Valentine’s Day, the Fourth of July, and Dia de los Muertos.

It stars Mark Indelicato as Jorge Jr., who is gay, and described as “the pinnacle of style, and life of the party… after years of dating he has finally found a man good enough to bring home, but he is nervous about it.” The first episode follows Jorge introducing his boyfriend Henry (played by Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’s openly gay Vincent Rodriguez III) to his family on Christmas Eve/Nochebuena.

There’s a  handsome doctor played by Todd Grinnell, and other cast members include Rome Flynn, Desmond Chiam, Constance Marie, Benito Martinez, and Birdie Silverstein, the nonbinary child of Busy Philipps.

The fact that it’s in an over-the-top setting with a very melodramatic family made the whole thing much more funnier than normal.  And we all know that laughter can be just as good as love at times like this

All five episodes will premiere in the US on Prime Video on December 17
