Testosterone Volume 2, a new collection of short gay movies from TLA Releasing, is much darker than its predecessor which was released last October. With the exception of two of these films they all take an intriguing look at the male psyche via somewhat traumatic stories.
Straight of the bat, the first film in this compendium is Beyond Plain Sight. It is the story of Ryan a popular man in his London neighborhood, but no-one knows that behind locked doors at home he is quite the psychopath who has a young man prisoner in his apartment so he can torture and rape him. It’s a tough view and and very unsettling to watch.
Salt from Brazilian filmmaker Diego Freitas is the story of a solitary computer technician who hooks up with a young man online to share a strange and very disturbing fantasy. To make it seem even more chilling, you should know that it is based on true story. Then Lost Years tells the two story of two college boys who fall madly in love only to have their relationship fall apart after one of them is the victim of a very traumatic incident.
There is a very definite sweetness to Jason Stuart‘s Like Father which is the first heart to heart a dying father finally has with his gay son and when they both realise they are actually a lot more similar than they had thought.
The final film Turn It Around is from Dutch filmmaker Neils Bourgonje and is a cute and heartwarming coming-out-story that comes together around a spin-the-bottle party game.
If you like to be shaken up by your viewing and maybe downright disturbed then Testosterone Vol 2 is definitely for you.
