From the team that bought us ‘Shank’ the first winner of the Roger Walker-Dack Award for Emerging Artists in Queer Cinema comes this gritty prison drama about Jack, a convicted Priest, who all the other inmates round on because they wrongly assume he’s a pedophile. Already deserted by the Church and now totally alone he has to face the anger and prejudices of the other prisoners who are determined to level their own vicious punishment on him. But he has a savior in the form of a friendly guard who not only rescues him in the nick of time, but with whom he also starts a dangerous and illicit affair.
As trust forms between the two lovers we learn the real reason for Jack’s incarceration and they start to plan their life beyond the prison walls after his eventual release. This no-holds-barred movie tells of the unavoidable consequences of the other prisoner’s wrath and malice once they manage to ensure that the authorities censure and dismiss the Guard leaving Jack alone and vulnerable again.
Despite all its energy the movie suffers from some of the questionable acting which is as flimsy as the very low budget sets. Not in same league as this filmmaking team’s debut, but it’s still worth a look.
