Erin C.Buckley‘s sparking new queer web series PLATONIC is about the trials of searching for love and when you are a thirty-year-old something-single in Brooklyn
Olive (Summer Spiro) is a lesbian and Billy (Ryan King) is straight and her best friend and their brief (and always off-kilter) romances fit neatly into each 5 min bite size episodes. Every time all done and dusted each time before the final credits.
Both are inseparable, well by phone and voicemail anyway, and they almost competitively share details of they last dates, and also those of their friends, They don’t always end in tears, but then again none of them will ever qualify for happy ever afterward finishes.
Buckley’s witty scripts reflect her acute observational skills which mainly see the funny side of what these potential daters take far too seriously. Both gay and straight, they are looking for love in all the wrong places, and spend way too just time indulging in talking about their failures than actually learning from them.
We cannot imagine if anthropologists got to view this in the future, what they would think of these hilarious attempts at mating. Meanwhile for us this is such a perfect compulsive binge watch as we found ourselves so invested in them all trying to find love …. maybe they will if there is a second season..
P.S. Episode 3 is the steamiest fully-clothed seduction scene we have watched in a long time. Please have some cold water standing by.
