This excellent ‘comedy of manners’ movie set in Paris is about Manu, a Pediatrician in his mid 40’s with a very successful life, who desperately wants to be a Dad even though his determination causes him to break up with his longstanding partner Philippe a Lawyer who has no paternal instincts at all. Like Florida, adoption by gay men and women is illegal in France, so Manu single-mindedly tries by fair means and foul to fulfill his dreams. He soon discovers that the way to gay parenthood is far from simple even for someone as eminently suitable as him, so he considers everything from surrogacy to eventually even a marriage of convenience resulting in some hilarious, heartwarming and very poignant situations.
After several setbacks through a cruel twist of fate he eventually succeeds and unexpectedly this makes everyone else in his life happy too. Almost.
This delightful and touching totally believable story, brilliantly acted by Lambert Wilson and Pascal Elbe, and is just as much about being a lover, a friend and a family as it is to being a parent. It is a sheer joy to watch even if like me, the only time you ever want to be called Daddy is in a Leather Bar.
