Is ARCHER the new queer dating app aiming for your heart or your wallet ? We want to know

If you are a single man ot woman (and anything in between) straight or gay then there is a very good chance you have used one of the many services/websites owned by MATCH.com.  As of Dec 2023, they owned the following dating services

Archer,  Gay Men
Azar,
BLK, Black singles
Chispa,  Latin
Upward, Christian
Hakuma:  Korean/Arab
Hinge
“The dating app
designed to be deleted
Hyper Connect
Match.com
Meetic French.
OkCupid
Pairs Connecting couples
Plenty of Fish Canadian
The League  ‘Successful singles”
Tinder the swipe right/left site.

Whilst we tend to use these sites for a ‘happy ever after’ (there are different sites for quick hook ups)  the people at Match (2600 employees)  are just hoping we will make them happy by adding to their bottom line. Forgive us for being more than a tad skeptical but in 2023 that amounted to some 3.4 Billion Dollars, generating an operating income of 1, 259 Million Dollars!  We were always taught that money doesn’t bring you happiness but …….

ARCHER is the new boy on the block that  was started in 2023 specifically by gay men for gay men ….. especially for those who haven’t struck gold on Tinder.  At first glance the major improvement is that they insist on Selfie verification at signup.  This is designed to mitigate abuse and fraud, so that users are more authentically represented and verified via their profile photo.  I.e. no more catfishing. They believe this will encourage celebration  (of being gay) rather than the usual  anonymity.

Thanks to AI  (we knew that this would be useful one day) Archer’s interface is a customizable experience featuring three different profile-viewing options. Users can scroll through a linear feed, viewing one profile at a time, a zoomed-in grid showcasing 15 profiles, or a zoomed-out grid for viewing dozens of profiles at once.

Archer tell us that it requires that all profiles are content-rich and high-quality, and that users adhere to Archer’s community guidelines and safety policies. This technology is used further in Archer’s chat feature, smart-blurring photos that may contain nudity to help give users agency to control when or if they see the photo.

It’s a little early to know what the success rate is (for users not the company’s bottom line) but we wish and hope Archer can deliver what it promises.  We know that you wont be backward in coming forward in letting us know .
