queerguru has only recently come across Beatrice Martin, better known by her stage name Coeur de Pirate, who is quite the pop sensation north of the border. She popped up on our radar earlier this year when she was so affected by the tragedy of the Pulse massacre, that she decided it was time she came out of the closet. No easy step as it meant leaving her husband who was the father of her child.
Martin’s last single ‘Carry On’ stayed at No 1 in Canada’s Top 40 for 11 weeks but now she is looking in a new direction and not only by now singing in English, but also finding a truth in her queerness is reflected in the new music she is producing now. Definitely one to look out for.
