Each week queerguru takes a brief look at some of the big things that have made us smile and get a real ‘high five’ aka the ice cream emoji, and at the other end of the scale, those things that have really pissed us off and get a very big thumbs downs aka the famous ‘poop’ emoji.
This week’s include :
Time Magazine for the best front cover of the week
Sadiq Khan the new Mayor of London for raising the Rainbow Flag outside City Hall the moment he arrived to take over.
Denmark for being the first country in the world to declare that trans gender is NOT an illness. Lili Elbe ‘The Danish Girl’ would be very proud of you.
Laverne Cox for starring in Doubt which will be the first US broadcast series featuring a transgender series regular character played by a transgender actor (pity that Katherine Heigl is also in it too!). And for the first sneak prefer of Laverne’s fabulous take on Dr. Frank-N-Furter in a new production of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
The Seychelles Islands for finally legalizing homosexuality. Just another 78 countries to go before the LGBT community is really free.
Eric Fanning the new Army Secretary for keeping cool and dignified through his overly-long and reactionary approval process by the Senate before becoming the U.S’s first openly gay leader of the military.
Whistlepunks.com for creating a whole new trend in urban axe throwing. queerguru has no idea why we should love this idea so much, but we really do.
53% of the World for believing it should not be a crime to be LGBTI. New research released on International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT), showed that number has increased to a majority for the first time EVER.
Prince Harry for publicly tweaking a rather hot sportsmen’s nipple. We wonder if his Uncle Andrew who once told him he wasn’t ‘normal’ , also told him about nipple rings?
Ruth Coker Burks : the Cemetery Angel. If you need one instance this week to restore your faith in all the goodness that still remains in the world, then take a quiet moment to read this beautiful story about one truly remarkable woman.
This weeks include:
Father Rory Coyle the virulently anti-gay 35-year-old Catholic priest caught on Grindr and for sending naked pictures of himself to students, and then the Irish News published an article trying to convince readers that he was not really a nasty lying perverted hypocrite at all.
Pastor Anne Graham Lotz whose brother Franklin Graham was featured in Barometer last week, proves she is nastier/madder than her sibling with her latest pronouncement in which she suggested that God let 9/11 happen because he’s too upset about transgender people.
Cardinal Robert Sarah, who is influential in the Vatican and holds the fancy title of Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, goes one stage further and warns ‘demonic’ transgender rights in the US are killing God! Oh please, surely Trump is doing that all on his own!
Talking of Trump though …. one of his potential nominees to be a Supreme Court Justice is William H. Pryor Jr of Texas who believe that States should be free to make “homosexual sodomy” an imprison-able offence.
Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) an extreme and very powerful anti-gay legal group who go to a great deal of trouble to make sure they look like ‘the good guys’ where in fact they make most of its homophobic predecessors look like also-rans. Check out this new video from Carlos Maza of Media Matters For America and be REALLY scared.
