The celebrated Brit all-male contemporary dance company BalletBoyz are heading back here to the US and Canada next spring touring with their new production ‘Life’ which has been garnering high praise from all the London critics. When reviewing the two part program, one wrote “it is rare to find extremes of grace and eccentricity in the same evening but the two works here deliver both in spades.”
The first part of the newly commissioned program is called ‘Rabbit’ which has been described as ‘a perfect midsummer night’s dream of a ballet‘ and is by Swedish choreographer Pontus Lidberg. The second part ‘Friction’ is by the controversial Venezuelan choreographer Javier de Frutos and is essentially his own funeral.
Balletboyz was formed in 2000 by Michael Nunn and Billy Trevitt two principal dancers with The Royal Ballet, and since then the Company has danced all over the world and won numerous awards and accolades working with leading dancers, choreographers and designers. Then in 2010 when Nunn & Trevitt retired from performing they started a groundbreaking project called theTALENT. Selecting eight young male dancers from a variety of backgrounds they worked with them closely, mentoring and coaching to create a company of first-class performers. This expanded to ten dancers and then in 2013 BalletBoyz won the National Dance Award for Best Independent Company.
