Two-time Academy Award Nominee Peter Morgan continues his fixation with HM Queen Elizabeth with his latest creation that he has written and executive produced for Netflix. The Crown, which is set to be the company’s most expensive original drama series to date, chronicles the tumultuous early days of the young Queen’s realm, so don’t expect Dame Helen Mirren * aiming for yet another Award playing Her Majesty .
Directed by three-time Academy Award Nominee Stephen Daldry, the 10 part series will star young British actress Claire Foy, as well as John Lithgow, Jeremy Northam, Matt Smith, Jared Harris, Vanessa Kirby and Dame Eileen Atkins. The Producers promise that the story line will go behind the locked doors in Westminster and Buckingham Palace to reveal the personal intrigues, romances and political rivalries.
The real question is, will this highly anticipated series match the fervor and following of ‘Downton Abbey‘ when it debuts on November 4th?
* Helen Mirren won an Oscar and about every other best actress award in 2007 for The Queen, and in 2014/5 won a Tony and Laurence Oliver Award for playing her Majesty on stage in The Audience ……both written by Peter Morgan.
