In the late ’70s the Finnish homoerotic artist known as Tom Of Finland made an Echo Park Craftsman house in LA his home. It also became a gathering place for fellow influential figures in the gay visual arts, including Robert Mapplethorpe and John Waters. A few years before his death, “Tom of Finland” and house owner Durk Dehner hatched the Tom of Finland Foundation, with the house as the headquarters for his archives as well as a safe space for artists who’ve been discriminated against for pursuing erotica
Hoof Inspired by his original work created during his artist residency, will present his murals on the exterior of TOM House.
Hopf’s unveiling coincides with the latest release of My Gay Eye, now in its 19th volume. Select readings from My Gay Eye will feature Durk Dehner, Mark Hayward, Felice Picano, and S.R. Sharp.
