Flavio Alves’s award winning film THE GARDEN LEFT BEHIND finally gets its UK premiere at Glasgow Film Festival next month It’s the tale of Tina a young trans woman and her grandmother, as they navigate Tina’s transition and struggle brings home the stark reality of trying to build a life as undocumented immigrants in New York City. The Garden Left Behind is just one of seven queer films that have been selected to be screened at the Festival. They include the UK premiere of another Queeguru favorite : Gay Chorus Deep South the story of the San Francisco Chorus’s tour of the 5 Southern US states They take a message of love and hope after the area had suffered from so much homophobic hate. One of the most highly anticipated films is TWO OF US aka Deux which enjoyed such a wonderful reception when it premiere in TIFF last Fall. It’s a heartwarming tale of two elderly French lesbians who have hidden their deep and passionate love for many decades. However heir bond is put to the test when they are suddenly unable to move freely between each other’s apartments.
Scottish filmmaker Peter Mackie Burns film RIALTO is set in Dublin and is the tale of a married man in his mid-forties who is at a very low point in his love. He’s grieving the death of his father, a destructive figure in his life, he struggles with his relationship to his own, and is just about to lose his job. In the midst of all this Colm solicits sex from a young man called Jay and he is shocked to discover that he finds a comfort in him that no one else can provide.
The other two films are :
MOFFIE by Oliver Hermanus set in South Africa and is an intense depiction of a young gay man’s army training under the apartheid regime.
THE CAPOTE TAPES by Ebs Burnough which is a revealing portrait of the man and his times using previously unheard audio recordings and fresh interviews with some of the people who knew Capote best,
