‘Do you believe in life after love?’ sang Thirsty Burlington , the multi-talented legendary drag performer who is more Cher than Cher herself. It was obvious from the rapturous reception from the packed audience she received last night at the Sage Inn and Lounge in Provincetown that no-one has ever stopped loving Thirsty. It wasn’t exactly a comeback but at the end of the summer last year when a sober Thirsty was playing a drunk Judy Garland , she fell and broke her leg, and so has been less than visible in P Town this summer.
That is besides starring in a brand new feature film called THIRSTY that is based on her life and which played to standing room only crowds at Provincetown’s Film Festival last month. So these three nights appearing with comedian Jenny McNulty in a Cher tribute show called ‘CHERRING’ are a very rare treat. As well as singing some of the Diva’s greatest songs, Thirsty (and Jenny) are wickedly funny in a show they bill as ‘family friendly’ (it’s LGBTQ Family Week here ) but frankly their humor would be so wasted on anyone too young to even remember just one of Cher’s Farewell Farewell Farewell Tours.
Last night Thirsty asked ‘Worship Me!’ which was totally unnecessary as the moment she set foot on ten stage m it was clear that the crowd did as she was ‘fantabulous’ as always.
CHERRING plays for just one more night : Thursday 28th July @ 8.30 pm Tickets and information http://www.sageinn.com
