Last year Miami gave birth to Gay8 (GayOcho!) the city’s very first Latino LGBT art, music and food street festival in Miami’s historic Little Havana and it was a sensational success with some 17,000 people swelling the crowds throughout the day . We know that for a fact, as we were there too.
Now on January 15, 2017 Miami’s top bands like Lucy Grau, the Spam Allstars, and Locos Por Juana, and loads of local businesses, and a good part of the LGBT community will once again come together for the second Annual Gay8 (GayOcho!). The organizers have promised a whole string of events including dance parties, food tastings, guided walks, pop art performances and cigar tastings (well it is Little Havana after all).
At the historic Tower Theater in the heart of Calle Oche the Miami International Film Festival will showcase 3 excellent LGBT themed movies FREE during the festival. They include Being 17 which is possible the best coming-of-age movie of 2016 : His Wedding Dress a gripping (but grim) Cuban tale about a transsexual’s relationship with a naive straight man back in the country’s dark days of 1994 : Summertime a French splendid romantic lesbian tear-jerker with a lot of girl-on-girl action. What Gay8 Festival aims to do is to connect Miami’s diverse communities and it does it all so successfully blending all of South Florida’s delights into one gigantic totally fabulous block party.
