In Provincetown we’ve seen Liza Lott (Matty Laurenza) give Adele a real run for her money when she has performed at Showgirls Talent Show, and we know she can belt out show tunes from her gig at the Crown and Anchor’s Wave Bar, but we still were not prepared for her phenomenal One Woman Show last week.
For two nights at The Provincetown Theater run by David Drake, Liza gave a powerhouse performance as her namesake with a Z in Minnelli The Legend. Devoid of all the usual camp stereotypical over-the-top exaggerated impersonations, with her extraordinary voice Liza captured the real essence of the multi-award winning performer when she was at her peak.
There was plenty of humor ….. in fact by far the best number of the evening was Liza doing ‘Liza’ doing Lady Gaga. Sheer inspiration and deliciously funny. Minnelli is a minefield of good material and Liza (and whoever helped her conceive the show) chose extremely well and included only numbers that she could show the breadth of her talent.
After the standing ovation, Liza Lott shared that the show had been ‘picked up’ starting with a summer run at The Post Office Cafe in PTown every Tuesday night https://postofficecabaret.com/. Keep an eye on this space too as we’ll be having do a ‘tell-all’ interview for our cameras very soon.
