The photo above was taken at Gay Pride in Cork in the south west of Ireland and the country’s second largest city which is strangely home to very few gay establishments Why such a bustling and booming metropolis lacks a choice of gay bars for example is a mystery to us. Especially on a recent visit we found all the Corkians we met to display such warm and open friendliness to strangers in the traditional Irish manner.
However if you do type in Gay Cork in any search engine as well as the two bars …..Rubys and Loafers…. you will probably come across Emerson House. This is a rather imposing Georgian townhouse built in the early 1800s that has been lovingly restored into a delightful LGBT bread and breakfast guest house by its owner Cyril Shanahan.
He has retained many period features of the house and furnished each of the rooms as only a rather grand gay gentleman would. Furnished with antiques, it is full of old world charm that is rather a refreshing change these days when so many rooming establishments are so bland and corporate.
This is the rather spacious room we occupied, and as the house is on a hill overlooking the city centre, it gave us imposing view of the river that runs through Cork.
Cyril is the most hospitable and knowledgeable host and made our short stay such a joy, and assured us that he is doing his bit to keep this wonderful city as gay as it can be.
Check out www.emersonhousecork.com for more details, and you should also know that the room rates are very reasonable
P.S. Cork Gay Pride 2018 July 29th – August 5th
P.S. Queerguru would love you to bits if you did us one tiny favor. Despite the fact that we have had almost 270K hits on YouTube (yeah!) they will not give us a single cent of the advertising money that they make off us until we have more subscribers. Won’t cost you a dime, but it will help support our site. Just simply click on the link below. Thank you very much!
