Elegies for Angels, Punks and Raging Queens

Provincetown’s Peregrine Theater Ensemble is offering a rare opportunity to see and hear one of the most beautifully poignant ‘musicals’ that evolved about the AIDS pandemic. Elegies for Angels, Punks and Raging Queens  was inspired by the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt and Edgar Lee Masters’ Spoon River Anthology, and is a song cycle with music by Janet Hood and lyrics and additional text by Bill Russell.

Each of the monologues is written from the perspective of characters who’ve died from AIDS and the songs represent the feelings of friends and family members dealing with the loss.

This stunning and moving totally unforgettable piece of theatre has been performed on Broadway (where is was nominated for a Tony for Best Musical) and London’s West End.  This particular one-night-only performance at the Fishermans Hall is a Benefit for the Provincetown Community Compact and Swim for Life.  Take a listen to a track from the London Performance.
