Grammy, Emmy and Tony Award winner Cyndi Lauper has released a stunning new video of one of the most poignant songs she wrote for the Tony Award winning Kinky Boots.
This new acoustic take of “Not My Father’s Son,” which Lauper conceived, played and even directed the video for, features two of the show’s original stars Tony Award winner Billy Porter and Tony Award nominee Stark Sands who have recently returned to the Broadway show for a limited run.
The music video tells the story of two very different people from wildly different backgrounds who find common ground through their shared trauma. Exploring the pressure of growing up with a parent’s very narrow expectations, the song celebrates finding peace in your own skin.
