AnnMargaret from 60s sex symbol to becoming rock diva at aged 81

During a career that has stretched over six decades the Swedish/American singer-actress has won five Golden Globe Awards and been nominated for two Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and six Emmy Awards.  Her resume includes starring with Elvis Presley in Viva Las Vegas, with Dick Van Dyke in Bye Bye Birdie, with Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau, in Grumpy Old Men, and very surprisingly with Roger Daltry in  the rock Opera Tommy.

Evidently, her role in the latter gave her a perfect excuse to think about ditching her sex symbol persona and unleash her inner rock goddess.  Fast forward to 2023 and now at the grand age of 81, she has the first album  Born To Be Wild that focuses squarely on rock standards.  She handpicked all of them including Steppenwolf’s biker anthem referenced in the title and “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” which Elvis famously gyrated through in his own version.
