Hansel Porras Garcia, a young Cuban/American filmmaker, is about to have his latest film premiere at Miami’s Film Festival. This is after his debut feature film “Febrero” won the Knight Made in MIA Award, the main prize at the Festival in 2023.
TROPICAL PARK is an experimental film, shot in one single take, is the story of two Cuban siblings – a newly arrived trans woman (Lola Bosch) and her estranged conservative brother (Ariel Texidó) – who face each other for the first time in years. Garcia shows great insight into how these two ‘strangers’ navigate the way forward to co-exist in a world that seems quite alien to both of them
Queerguru tracked Garcia down on the eve of his screening to talk about his remarkable talent, and also to mark our respect to the MFF for their very impressive support of not just Garcia, but the burgeoning local film community
