We Really Need Some Love Right Now

aa2

Eight years ago as the country was hysterically happy with the popular Barack Obama’s groundbreaking victory in being elected the President of the U.S.A., the celebrations were marred in our community knowing that at the same time Prop 8 had been passed outlawing same-sex marriage in California.

Whilst we gathered our thoughts before the (very sucessful) Campaign to overturn this ghastly decision got underway, author and photographer B.Proud launched her First Comes Love Project.  What she set out to do was to provide a glimpse into the “everyday” lives of LGBTQ couples who have been in their relationships for 10, 20, 30, 40 and even 50 years! It took the form of traveling exhibition of the photographs and more importantly also a beautiful hardback book of images of all these couple celebrating their love for each other.

It was a wonderful morale booster just when our Community so needed it, and exactly like we need it yet once again after the country’s worst election results ever.  It is too early to know how much the new Administration will try and turn the clocks back on our rights, but visiting the First Comes Love Exhibition which opens at the Stonewall Museum in Fort Lauderdale on November 11 may be the perfect instant pick-up for our sprits right now.

queerguru talked with B Proud for P.T.V. when she came through P Town in the Summer of 2015, and here is our interview.
