Forget the never-ending war in Iran, or having to sell off your jewellery to buy a gallon of gas, or even the dilemma of what to buy Taylor Swift as a wedding gift; the Attorney General of the State of Florida has got far more pressing priorities on his (tiny) mind. He is threatening legal action against An Coimisiún Le Rincí Gaelacha (CLRG). If, like Queerguru, you are Florida residents but have no idea who or what this great threat to our great State is, we’ve dug deep to make sure you know what has rattled James Uthmeier so much.

Mr Uthmeier, who we think could be JD Vance’s doppelganger, is suing this Dublin-based governing body for Irish dancing, and the Irish Dance Teachers’ Association of North America (ITDANA) if they do not ban trans dancers from competing in an event in Orlando! We suggest that Mr Uthmeier should brush up on his Ladybird Guide to World History, which would tell him that the Irish can play tougher than Iranians when outsiders 1) try to interfere with their culture, and 2) are stupid enough to try and tell them what\t ty do
Just look at the photo at the top of this page, and tell me, honestly, would you have the balls to try and boss these women?
SO CLRG and ITDANA are standing their ground in support of transgender dancers and their existing policies, but we believe that the AG doesnt have a leg to stand (or dance ) as The North American Irish Dance Championships and Conference is a private event. It’s organised by the ITDANA and governed by the CLRG, and their policies allow transgender dancers to compete.
What really raised our levels of ‘annoyance’ even more was the AG, on his demands, showing his deep prejudice even more by insisting the ban is specifically for those who are transfeminine. This anti-immigrant, anti-trans Republican Attorney General further claimed that allowing trans women to compete is unfair to cis women, with misleading statements claiming that trans women have biological advantages, citing a time when a trans minor won a competition in 2023.
We have such respect for The North American Irish Dance Championships and Conference, which have stated, “As a core value, the Irish Dance Teachers’ Association of North America, Inc., IDTANA, is committed to preserving and promoting Irish Dance in an environment that is inclusive and free of discrimination and harassment.
“We support a culture where every dancer, family, teacher, and volunteer feels safe, respected and valued through creating an environment that provides dancers, regardless of age, ability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, income, race or sexual orientation, opportunities to learn and grow as dancers and people.
“People of all ages benefit from the physical, mental, and social aspects of Irish Dance, and the IDTANA is supportive of including all those who want to learn and/or compete.
