Rodney Rhoda Taylor talks about his memoir ‘A LIFE IN LETTERS’ and how he really wants to be a gay Carrie Bradshaw

Rodney Rhoda Taylor is a disarmingly honest (and very funny) queer writer who idolises Carrie Bradshaw for both her writing AND her shoe collection. Like so many gay men (and women) he grew up in a home that was hardly conducive to an adolescent coming to terms with his sexuality. So unable to share these feelings with anyone at all, he dealt with them by writing a whole series of letters to himself about this rite of passage.

Fast forward to the current time, and now re-discovering the letters, he collated them into a wonderful wee memoir ”A LIFE IN LETTERS’.   It’s a heartfelt journey where he struggles with societal expectations as he gets comfortable in his own skin with his sexuality.  With the lack of queer peers or ‘text’ books even, so many of us also had to deal with this totally on our own.. Except I don’t think I could shape my memories into such a compelling read as RRT has achieved.

Its’ one of those books you will get so engrossed in that you will want to binge-read it in one go. Well, I did anyway, and it was sheer joy to sit down and film this interview with him for Queerguru
