Looking for a festive show but don’t buy into all the religion and heterosexual normative entertainment that’s forced down our throats this time of year? Then check out the fabulous mystic Séayoncé’s Perky Nativititties, on at London’s cute Yard Theatre until 21st December.
Hackney Wick’s finest were out in force last night for Seayonce’s (Dan Wye) first live TV Anti-Christmas Special, filmed by Satan TV for a global audience. Accompanied on keyboards by her delicate, yet vicious and sadistic, assistant with a deep voice, Leslie-Ann (Robyn Herfellow), Seayonce is all set for their anti-Christmas fistive show when it becomes apparent that an audience member, or some other spirit, is sabotaging the show and forcing her to present traditional family-friendly Christmas content. The fight begins but who will win the battle to control the show?
Seayonce and Leslie-Ann – think a modern version of Dame Edna Everage and her random assistant Madge Allsop – take us on a joyous, two-act pun-filled romp full of silliness, queer drug and sexual innuendo, belly laughs and warm-heartedness. Seayonce’s amazing voice belts out twisted Christmas carols and unwitting audience members find themselves in various situations. More of that voice please next time. The super-sharp script will have you smiling and laughing the whole time, and anything else on your mind will be completely forgotten. Christmas can be an isolating time for many queer people but this inimitable show overturns that. So much fun. Give these guys a real TV show. Catch it while you can.
