Playwright and performer Alexis Gregory’s new play Neon Divine premieres this Pride month at West End cabaret venue Crazy Coqs. Performed as a staged-reading meets radio-play presentation, Neon Divine explores the relationship between gay men and divas, queerness, art, fame, power, status, glamour, deepfake divas, and what happens when our idols let us down. It’s a bold, provocative, savage comedy drama. Actor, cabaret artist, and LGBTQ+ trailblazer Kim Tatum (aka the legendary Miss Kimberley) stars as faded diva Miss Larelle, alongside Gregory as ‘Bad Gay’ Brian Ward.
Alexis says
I’m really pleased to be presenting this new piece of work at one of London’s most fabulous performance venues, Piccadilly Circus’s Crazy Coqs, with the fabulous Kim Tatum in a role I wrote especially for her. June 23rd’s performance is the play’s first outing, presented as stripped back, deconstructed staged-reading, meets radio-play; think Lars Von Trier’s ‘Dogma’. Further inspirations include Almodovar, 90’s theatre, ‘Sunset Boulevard‘, ‘All About Eve’, and a whole lot more. I’m really pleased to work with Kim, and share with our first audience, in a venue which is a real treat, and experience, to visit.
Kim also comments
Neon Divine is a much-needed piece of theatre, with all the trimmings, and glamour, of old-skool Hollywood. We’re giving our community a piece of theatre, taking influence from the iconic Hollywood stars from the golden age, and updated with authenticity. It’s a new piece of theatre that’s educational, fun and exciting.
Sounds good. I look forward to seeing this! Crazy Coqs also serves some of the best cocktails in town, with great table service.
Neon Divine is on Sunday 23rd June 2024 at 5pm Crazy Coqs at Brasserie Zedel.
