Emmy-nominated queer Miami documentary filmmaker KAREEM TABSCH continues his penchant for capturing some of the many idiosyncratic characters that have been part of the history that has given Florida its rather ‘oddball’ reputation. He is just starting work on his latest film, SAVE OUR CHILDREN, the story of the anti-gay crusader ANITA BRYANT, the ‘wholesome’ Miss Orange Juice, who in 1977 ran a Save Our Children (sic) Campaign to make it legal to discriminate based on sexual orientation.
Tabsch has just been given a LOUIE AWARD presented by the Miami Film Festival and funded by the Wolfson Foundation to the value of $50K to enable him to make this documentary about a very important part of queer Florida history. Queerguru caught up with him to discuss what a difference the Louie will make for his work
