Queer author/photographer STEPHEN DALY talks about his debut novel THE LAST DEATH POET that is grabbing headlines

Stephen Daly is a queer author and photographer from Belfast who has always been passionate about how people make sense of who they are and where they are from. He grew up around stories and worked as an actor before taking on many other theatre jobs. Eventually, he realised he was circling what he actually wanted to do – tell stories.
Belfast is the capital of Northern Ireland (aka Ulster), which is geographically part of the island of Ireland, but in fact ‘belongs’ to the UK. It has survived a troubled political history and is still considered the most conservative and traditional part of the UK. As such, it has lagged in recognising and adopting a queer culture, even though there has always been a significant (!?) local LGBTQA+ population. Queer literature, therefore, from Ulster is a rare, if not almost extinct genre, which is why the publication of THE LAST DEATH POET is such a big deal.
The fact that it’s being met with universally good reviews made us want to know more about the writer and his debut novel

Published 2 April 2026 (UK) and 9 June 2026 (US) by Rock the Boat
