LGBTQ Guided Tour of London’s legendary HIGHGATE CEMETARY where famous gays are laid to rest

Queerguru is a big fan of queer history, especially when people in the LGBTQ+ community tell it.  So we are delighted to tell you that Peter Herbert, the Curator Manager of The Arts Project and now a regular Queerguru Contributor, has a real treat in store. He is organizing an early Autumn 75-minute guided tour of the world-famous Highgate Cemetery

The themed tour by an expert will highlight the cemetery’s LGBT history, including an atmospheric Victorian Catacomb.  The cemetery was described by John Betjeman as “North London’s Victorian Valhalla.” It is the final resting place for an eclectic range of notable LGBT people, including author Radclyffe Hall, hermaphrodite Herculine Barbin, novelist Tom Wakefield, artist Mario Duidsky, playwright Sir Peter Shaffer and his partner Robert Leonard as well as ‘Hutch,’ the pianist Leslie Hutchinson, who had affairs with Cole Porter, Edwina Mountbatten and Ivor Novello. More recently, pop music superstar George Michael was laid to rest at Highgate.

Places are limited. If interested, please contact Peter pbherbert@gmail.com for more information before 30/9/26.
