Filmmaker and comedian LEWIS HANCOX is one of a handful of trans people who have made videos in support of Stonewall UK’s Come Out For Trans Equality Campaign. He believes that with all the negative press in the media right now surrounding trans issues means it’s vital trans people tell their own stories from their perspective. He hopes it gives trans people hope for the future to see other trans people putting themselves out there, living their lives successfully. He added ‘I don’t really identify with being trans – I’m just me – but at times like these I think it’s really important to be open and raise awareness.’
Stonewall has just released a new Report which highlights the scale of the challenges that trans people face. Amongst other things it found :
- One in eight trans employees (12%) have been physically attacked by a colleague or customer in the last year
- Half of trans people (51%) have hidden their identity at work for fear of discrimination
- A quarter of trans people (25%) have experienced homelessness
