There are just a few performances left to catch a compelling queer family drama that is playing out at Battersea Arts Centre in London. This mother-and-son story… played by the writer and his mother… is yet another facet of everyday life for a trans person that most of us have never encountered or even thought about. Geetha, the mother, is confronted by the news that her trans son Krishna wants to become pregnant …. and you are hit by her remarkable honesty as she has to deal with this, particularly as she has never acted before in her life. The ending reframes the piece with an unexpected yet empathetic revelation about Geetha’s reluctance. What begins as a story about Krishna’s decision ultimately becomes something broader as it becomes a reflection on how profoundly our familial histories shape our responses to life’s most pivotal choices.
These are rough times for the whole trans community around the globe right now, where politicians rely on general ignorance to push their agendas of sheer hatred. If it’s a case of educating ourselves to dispel all the vicious untruths, then add this excellent wee play to the list.
The right rhetoric is based on the outrageous spreading of lies they want to pass off as facts. They would ignore the truth such as the fact that pver 50% of trans male youth attempt suicide at least once
