The Dressmaker ….. at last

We’ve been tracking this fabulous new Australian movie starring Kate Winslet for so long that we had almost given up in despair that we would ever see it on our screens in the U.S. ‘The Dressmaker’ is billed as a ‘revenge comedy drama film’, and when it opened in  ‘Down Under’ last year it was the second-highest grossing Australian film after “Mad Max: Fury Road.”   It also also scored 13 AACTA Awards nominations, the equivalent of Australia’s Academy Awards, and won several, including a best actress statue for Winslet.

‘The Dressmaker’ centers on a woman who returns to her hometown in rural Australia to care for her ailing mother and to exact her revenge on the community that exiled her at a young age. It is so worth seeing not just for Ms Winslet’s performance but for the stunning outfits that her character just runs up on her old Singer sewing machine.  The film also stars Judy Davis and Liam Hemsworth who is always a sight for sore eyes.

Amazon Studios who have just purchased the US rights promise that the movie will be in out theaters by Fall.  We cannot wait.
