My Big Fat Gay Hindu Wedding

Rishi (left) and Dan married in 2011 in a traditional Hindu wedding. The couple are talking about their same-sex wedding and their individual journies in the hopes of creating awareness about LGBT issues.

We always thought that one of the (many) reasons that straight people would never let gay couples marry in the past was because they knew that we would do it in such magnificent style that would make them more than a teensy bit jealous.  They were right to be concerned as our community has completely embraced the whole wedding concept and have made making our lifetime commitments both joyous, inspiring and oh so totally unforgettable.

Canadians Daniel Langdon and Rishi Agarwal have just released the video of their full-blown big fat gay Hindu wedding in Toronto that took place in 2011.  Agarwal’s parents not only accepted their son when he came out to them, but threw him this traditional rather fabulous wedding with more than a few gay touches , and now years later have set up their own local PFLAG chapter.

P.S. It’s not just tying the knot that we are good at, it’s even the ‘getting down on one knee’ bit when we propose that gay men in particular have infused with their own wonderful sense of drama.  These are two of queerguru’s favorite ‘will you marry me’ scenarios.
