Like in so many countries around the globe right now, the UK is going through a wave of anti-American sentiment for very obvious reasons.  Not helped by the Orange Man boasting he could get the two parts of Ireland to reconcile within weeks,  or dismissing Prime Minister Burnham as “the mayor of a town” and “extremely liberal” before he took office. 

To help right some of these wrongs, we ordinary Americans are doing our very best to show the world we still love and appreciate them.  So rather than dump our despicable Orange Man on you, we are sending London some royalty of our own. Gay royalty, that is.

Most regular readers will know that QG’s summer base is in Provincetown, the wee piece of queer heaven at the very tip of Cape Cod.  It is, however, impossible to walk the few hundred yards of the main street without being accosted or tripping over a plethora of drag queens.  Thanks to the ubiquitous Drag Race TV show, each year more would-be stars are turned out into the world with just an elaborate costume, a suitcase of cosmetics, and backing tracks of last year’s hits and very little else.

Now one of their management companies, Producers Entertainment Group, have taken over one of the main venues to ensure they can get some gigs.  Poor souls are up against a triptych of talent  ….. we call them our real talented gems….. who dominate the town and are recognised as our Drag Royalty,

One of the three is DINA MARTiNA.  We were first granted an audience with her back in 2015, and she described herself to us then as a tragic singer, horrible dancer, and surreal raconteur.  Trust me she is all of those and more, but ever since she first exposed her bizarre performances to a startled world back in Seattle’s Center on Contemporary Art in 1989, she has accumulated legions of devoted fans who have dubbed her “magically warped”, “hilariously unfortunate” and “utter genius”.  She is, in her own words, totally ‘off the charts’. 

Dina doesn’t make it easy for humble scribes like moi, as her shows are packed with ludicrous songs, horrifying stories, and overburdened costumes. They are impossible to adequately describe, other than that they’ve become synonymous with jaw-dropping pathos and mind-blowing comedy. This unique and unpredictable performer is very much an acquired taste, but it’s one that we at Queerguru love to indulge in.

So here’s the good news for all of you in London: you are a stop on her next World Tour.  This will be her 10th Anniversary at the SOHO THEATRE, and her new show is Halloweena : is about an American custom where we cut up large orange vegetables (NO, not him).

We know you Brits may be suffering from drag withdrawal, as the BBC, your main TV channel, has dumped RuPaul’s Drag Race, but Miss Martina is in a whole different league. She is simply the best.
