On the night of the Academy Awards, WIF (Women in Film), with support from Angela Bassett, Eva Longoria, Lake Bell, the Geena Davis Institute, and ReFrame, put a Spotlight on Hollywood’s Vast Gender Disparity Among Below-the-Line Talent. Founded in 1973 as Women In Film Los Angeles, WIF advocates for and advances the careers of women working in the screen industries—in front of and behind the camera, across all levels of experience—to achieve parity and transform culture.
Drawing on insights from a comprehensive gender equity study by ReFrame, the gender equity coalition founded by Women in Film (WIF) and Sundance Institute, the campaign aims to shine a spotlight on Hollywood’s vast gender disparity among below-the-line talent.
The campaign’s centerpiece is a powerful short film by Fred & Farid Los Angeles. It uses the end credit format of films to highlight the significant gender disparity between men and women, as well as between men and women of color, in the film industry.
