With PIONEER WINTER …..The Show Will Always Go On…..but he could always use more help

This despicable US Administration is not just content with literally starving millions of people who rely on food stamps just to survive, but in a wider picture, it’s determined to starve our hearts and souls by destroying the arts and culture.  In one foul swoop, they ruined the prestigious Kennedy Center in DC  by enforcing their so-called ‘popular programming,’ and they brought the Center to its knees in a matter of months.

This is not an isolated experience, as in Queerguru’s hometown town Miami, they tried withholding funds from the Pioneer Winter Collective a highly successful intergenerational and physically integrated dance-theater company, but they had not reckoned with Pioneer the company’s choreographer and leader.

In March, the arts took a nation-sized gut punch when the federal government pulled funding from hundreds of nonprofit organizations — including PWC, BUT in less than a month later, they premiered their new work Apollo to sold-out audiences and promised to keep dancing.

Queerguru first met Pioneer back in 2017, and we were immediately bowled over by both his passion for dance but also his determination to make a significant contribution to the culture of his hometown.  He is such a powerhouse of energy who seems to succeed at anything and everything that he sets his mind on, which usually is all about pushing the envelope as far as he can.

He never seems to stand still, and on November 21–23, Pioneer Winter Collective celebrates its Broward Center in Fort Lauderdale debut with three performances of Apollo as part of the AMPLIFY ARTS initiative!

P.S.   Since 2016, Pioneer Winter Collective has expanded what dance can be by creating space for queer, disabled, and elder artists to lead, move, and be seen.

Our performances and workshops reach far beyond the stage, transforming how Miami witnesses beauty, power, and belonging.
