Conchita Wurst the bearded diva who took the whole world by storm when she won the Eurovision Song Contest back in 2014, is heading to the London Palladium with her show for one night only on February 25th. Conchita, the drag persona of Tom Neuwirth, dressed in the most glamorous sequined gown was the first singer to ever win the competition for Austria her home country. Her well-deserved victory was greeted with such enthusiasm around the world, especially by the LGBT community who were quick to acknowledge the significant contribution it made to public awareness.
Naturally, the Russian Government who were currently undergoing a purge of all LGBT activity in their own country very violently stressed their objections, as did the ultra-conservative religious leaders of countries like Serbia and Montenegro, but all to little avail.
Since then Conchita has built herself a very successful career from modeling for the likes of Jean-Paul Gaultier and Givenchy giving concerts around the world, including the Sydney Opera House, and even writing her own memoir. Equally important is the fact that Conchita has become an iconic figure in the LGBT community. She performed at an anti-discrimination event held at the European Parliament in Brussels and at the United Nations Office at Vienna in front of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon.
In 2017, Conchita hosted and performed for Life Ball, Europe’s biggest charity event supporting people with HIV or Aids, and will be the main ambassador for the upcoming Europride Vienna in 2019.
Now for the London Palladium Conchita is bringing her spectacular orchestral show to the UK, for the very first time singing all her favorite diva songs. Accompanied by the sixty piece BBC Concert Orchestra, conducted by the acclaimed conductor Wilhelm Keitel, and incorporating her own rock band and special guests, MICA PARIS and BETSY.
