Wilton Manors, Florida welcomes CHOCOLATE CITY its first (and long overdue) Black-Owned Gay Bar

Even though Wilton Manors, a small city in Florida that is a neighbor of Fort Lauderdale, has a significant queer population, it also has a mixed reputation regarding its attitude to diversity.  Unlike Miami Beach down the road, whose last census showed that a population has some 53% foreign-born residents, and a significant portion of residents identify within the Hispanic ethnic group, Wilton Manors is overwhelmingly Caucasian, accounting for some 72% of its residents

It wasn’t that long ago that the Wilton Manors Police Chief  Richard E. Perez was fired for distributing some 86 violently racist emails, but maybe the latest news from the Town is part of a much-needed sea change.

Just over a year ago, Chocolate City opened as the only black-owned LGBTQ+ bar in Wilton Manors, and has proved a much-needed addition to the strip’s nightlife, and deserves all our support They are hosting high-energy themed nights, soulful live performances, and DJs that keep the dance floor moving, and they also make a point of advertising that the Bar is the Home of the Double Shot Drink
