Wanna See Your Name in Lights?

queercinemaMaking queer cinema has never been easy.  Despite the boundless amounts of talent, and proven track records of filmmakers, and the abundance of LGBT Film Festivals eager to bring new work to audiences, and the success at the box office, especially via global streaming platforms, raising the necessary financial investment is still as tough as hell.  Even if a project can secure enough funds to actually film the script, then they still face a considerable hurdle to meet all the considerable costs of post-production.

Now we are not talking about sky-high Hollywood budgets here where they probably spend more on craft services than an LGBT filmmaker would spend on their entire film.  A few thousand dollars with a naught or two at the end goes a very long way in queer cinema.  Most productions now mount a Kickstarter fund of some  kind to secure the finances they need, and they are not just providing potential investors with some sort of very attractive reward, but also the satisfaction of knowing that they have played an integral part in helping get their project one step closer in front of the audience it deserves. Plus for just a few dollars or more, you will get a mention in the film credits, and who doesn’t want to see their name in lights?

Here are a few projects that currently need support and help.

‘More Than Only’ is a romantic comedy from first time writer/director Michelle Lee that brings the “happy after everything” ending that everyone deserves regardless of sexual orientation.  Check out their Kickstarter page at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/718665002/more-than-only-feature-film-for-lgbtq-community.  They are looking for $12K in the next 30 hours for their post production costs.

Doug Spearman, a star of the hit TV LGBT series Noah’s Arc wants to follow his successful directing debut of Hot Guys With Guns with a new feature called ‘From Zero To I Love You’.   He describes it as is a multi-generational, multi-racial romantic dramedy about two men from different backgrounds, different worlds, with different expectations placed on them by their families, friends, and society who come together and fall in love. It’s about husbands, wives, father’s, families,  and lovers.

So far he has raised $38K of his $100 budget and you can make a further dent in that at his GoFundMe page http://linkis.com/www.gofundme.com/AIbwY

‘Glee’ actor, model, Youtube and Instagram star Max Emerson is directing and starring in his first feature film ‘Hooked‘.  The story follows Jack and his gender-fluid boyfriend Tomás in New York City. They’ve run away from home instead of being sent to “behavior modification camps” and resort to sex-work in order to build a better life for themselves .

Emerson has already raised $40K of his $75 budget but his http://www.hatchfund.org/project/hooked is set to expire in 1 day.
