The recent debacle at London Pride when a small group of transphobic cisgender women somehow managed to hijack the front of the march, highlighted the need for our community t0 be doing more for our brothers and sisters. These particular protesters were shouting about how trans women aren’t women and are apparently “raping” lesbians ensuring that their obnoxious behavior grabbed plenty of media coverage.
If LGBTQ+ Pride Marches sadly get to be less welcoming environments for the trans community because of antics like this, then the very least we can do is lend our support to the growing number of Trans Pride marches. They have been held in major cities such as San Francisco and Toronto for years, but now they are popping up in more places around the globe.
The British seaside town of Brighton has held their Trans Pride Week for the past 5 years and is the biggest Trans Event in Europe. There are a host of some 20 different activities culminating in a March this coming Saturday, July 21st. https://transpridebrighton.org/
Dublin Ireland is set to have its first ever Trans Pride march on 28th July, after organizers felt that Dublin Pride, which took place at the end of June, was not paying enough attention to trans issues. https://www.facebook.com/transpridedublin/.They are just catching up with Northern Ireland who held theirs last month.
P.S. Queerguru would love you to bits if you did us one tiny favor. Despite the fact that we have had almost 250K hits on YouTube (yeah!) they will not give us a single cent of the advertising money that they make off us until we have more subscribers. Won’t cost you a dime, but it will help support our site. Just simply click on the link below. Thank you very much!
