We don’t think there could be a better time in our recent history to celebrate WORLD PRIDE. Especially as this year’s edition is based in Washington DC, almost on the doorstep of the White House, where the Orange Man temporarily lives. Never has one man done so much harm in such a short time, threatening lives and the very existence of the LGBTQA+ community, so we need to collectively show our pride and support some of the fabulous activities that have been planned. The stunning program is ENORMOUS, so today we are just going to focus on the World Pride Film Festival, which is a perfect example of how our community works so well together.
Shaun Cotter the Executive Director of Wicked Queer Bostons LGBTQ+ Flm Festival has curated three days of the Film Fest in collaboration with CINEQUEER a DC art community at the DANDELION COLLECTIVE Here are some of the movies you can expect to see:
Queer Greek Filmmaker Fil Ieropoulus sophomore feature film AVANT DRAG in whch he follows ten drag performers who find solace in each other as they rebel against their oppressive reality and those who control it. As the title indicates, these are not those Queens who are just about makeup, wig, or dress that the ubiquitous Ru Paul insists on. Thank God
“1946: The Mistranslation that Shifted a Culture” This documentary is a quest for biblical truth. About six verses in the Bible contain the word homosexual, since 1946 when it appeared for the first time in the Revised Standard Version (RSV), due to the work and duty of a team of 22 men translators. The RSV was not modified for 25 years and the texts were printed there in millions of copies of the Bible containing the word homosexual as a stigma against LGTB people. The misconception spread between readers, pastors, and religious fanatics. As the film said , “if you mistranslate something, there is a power behind what you are putting out to other people”. Why does being a homosexual exclude anybody from the kingdom of God? The film states that it is because of an error, a wrong translation in the Bible.
