This Valentine’s Day go swoon over Jacob Elordi as the latest (hunk) to play Heathcliff in WUTHERING HEIGHTS

If you haven’t firmed up plans for VALENTINE’S DAY next month, then we have the answer for you. Brit actress turned Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Emerald Fennell will be releasing her latest movie that day. It’s her own take on Emily Brontë’s perennial classic WUTHERING HEIGHTS, which was first filmed in 1939 and earned Laurence Olivier his first Academy Award nomination for his performance of Heathcliff,  and cemented his film career.

Owing to the novel’s enduring fame and popularity, Heathcliff is often regarded as an archetype of the tortured antihero whose all-consuming rage, jealousy and anger destroy both him and those around him; in short, the Byronic hero. It’s considered a plum role for leading actors, and we’ve lost count of the number of actors who have followed in Sir Larry’s footsteps.  The photos below are just a few of them, including some unlikely candidates such as Mike Vogel, who played the role in an MTV production, and the Brit pop singer Cliff Richard, who starred in a stage musical version of Wuthering Heights!

Laurence Olivier

Richard Burton

Ralph Fiennes

Tom Hardy

Timothy Dalton

Mike Vogel

James Howson

Cliff Richards

For Fennel’s new version, she has reunited with Australian (total hunk) JACOB ELORDI, who starred in her film Saltburn to great critical acclaim…. plus a whole string of claims for his bath water!   His very successful career to date includes other prestigious movies such as Sofia Coppola’s PriscillaGuillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, ; On Swift Horses, a period drama about LGBTQ relationships, in which he starred as Julius, a gambler who falls in love with another man in 1950s Las Vegas.   Elordi will be reunited with fellow Australian Margot Robbie, who was also in Saltburn, who will be playing Heathcliffe’s love interest Cathy, even though Robbie is actually 35 years old …. 7 years Elordi’s senior.
