Its always good to learn something new and queer every day. We were looking for gay events for the upcoming Holiday Season and we came across THE SUNDAY BOYS an inclusive LGBTQ+ choir in Manchester UK. What stumped was how they describe themselves as a ‘low voice’ choir which we immediately thought was queer lingo for ‘butch’. When we checked it out with Google search it turns out its another term for ‘bass’ which is the lowest male voice type and is characterized by a low, rich rumble with a ton of vocal weight. In other words : butch.
The choir was formed in 2016 and was open to any one, regardless of experience, who has a desire to learn and make music (in a low voice). They have performed across the UK and even embarked on an international tour of Iceland, and one of the major highlights of their year is their annual Christmas Show
A Very Queer Christmas, is a glorious mix of choral singing, rich storytelling, and festive reflection that comes together in a celebration of the season.
